Dear Customers and Friends,
This month, I want to share a message from my friend Lance Murdock that challenged me and caused me to reflect on how we use the opportunities God gives us.
Lance calls it “Life’s Bench of Complacency.”
In 1969, Lance was a varsity football player at Duke University. During a game against Georgia Tech, he found himself comfortably sitting on the bench. Then, after the starting linebacker suffered an injury, his coach called his name.
He went from sitting comfortably on the bench to standing on the field, fully engaged in the game. That experience eventually led him to ask a much bigger question:
“Am I in the game, or am I sitting on life’s bench?”
Years later, that same question challenged Lance in his faith. A pastor asked him, “Why has God placed you in the position you’re in, with the skills, the influence, and the opportunities you’ve been given?”
Lance realized that the gifts God gives us are not simply for our own success. They are meant to serve others and glorify Him.
As 1 Corinthians 12:7 reminds us:
“NOW TO EACH ONE THE MANIFESTATION OF THE SPIRIT IS GIVEN FOR THE COMMON GOOD.”
I appreciate Lance sharing this message because I believe it challenges all of us to consider where we may have become a little too comfortable.
So I’ll leave you with Lance’s question:
Are you in the game, or are you comfortably sitting on life’s bench?
May we have the faith to get off the bench and use what God has given us to make a difference in the lives of others.
