There are many attributes that make good leaders… They’re bold. Decisive. Inspiring.
But do you ever think about honesty as a key leadership trait? I believe it’s the most important underlying quality, because there is no respect or credibility without honesty.
At Syfan Logistics, we promote our transparency in working and communicating with customers. It’s most important in building trust and good relationships. The same goes for good leaders, whether you are the president of a company, a team leader, a Sunday School teacher, or a role model in the lives of young people. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes.
George Washington easily stands out as one of our nation’s greatest leaders – a war hero and founding father of America. Despite all his accolades, he believed that “the character of an honest man” is the most enviable of all titles. (Remember this is the same man who could not tell a lie about chopping down a cherry tree!)
Boyd Bailey, founder of an Atlanta-based ministry called Wisdom Hunters, writes that you maintain integrity and honesty by committing to transparency and accountability in every decision. In doing so, he says integrity begins by aligning your words with your actions – doing what you say you will do.
Like any company’s vision statement, set clear values for yourself and make sure your decisions reflect them consistently. CHECK YOURSELF BY SEEKING CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK AND SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH ADVISORS WHO ARE UNAFRAID TO SPEAK THE TRUTH.
Whether at work or in your personal life, let’s make an effort to prioritize integrity and honesty in all we do. That’s the best way to build trust, inspire confidence, and create a culture of authenticity and respect.
Blessed to be a Blessing,
Greg Syfan
