Dear Customers and Friends,

Here in the South, we like to say we’re “setting our minds to it” when we want to focus on getting something done. However, Southerners certainly can’t hold claim to originating this popular saying.

The apostle Paul uses the same phrasing in Romans 8:6 when he says, “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.”

Paul is pointing out two distinct paths in explaining how we should lead our lives as Christians. The mind set on the flesh is dominated by self-interest and pleasure apart from God, while the mind set on the Spirit prioritizes God’s love.

One path leaves us spiritually dead, feeling empty, lost and separated from a life of true purpose. The other path leads to life – not just eternal life but a new life in the here and now.

 

WE EXPERIENCE TRUE PEACE BY LETTING GO OF OUR PROBLEMS, NO MATTER HOW BAD THE STORMS, AND TRUSTING GOD.

The Bible also tells us how to set our minds on God. Philippians 4:8-9 reads like an instruction manual: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

God is so good that when we focus on Him with our thoughts and prayers, we can’t help but do good and feel happy. Let’s all try to start each day with this positive attitude and let the Spirit guide us through all the days of our lives.
