Growing up, I had a best friend who had it all. His family was wealthy. He was very athletic. He also was good-looking and popular with the girls.
Yes, he had it all but for one critical fault. He made poor decisions.
Of course, youth and our strong friendship blinded me when I was confronted with his lack of judgment. I should have known better, and that I might be following him down a destructive path. Like love, however, I guess friendship can be blind, too.
My father, Jim Syfan, did know better. He told me not to hang around him anymore. “He is taking you nowhere good.”
Dad’s wisdom and intuition gave him a much better perspective, and I’m sure God was speaking through him, but I didn’t get the message – at least until I started dating a pretty girl named Lynn Richardson. She saw right through my buddy and understood his true nature right away.
BUT MY FATHER, JIM SYFAN, DID KNOW BETTER. HE TOLD ME NOT TO HANG AROUND HIM ANYMORE. “He is taking you nowhere good.”
I encourage you to listen out for God, our Father, when he speaks to us through others. Whether it’s your earthly father or your Heavenly Father (or maybe even your future spouse!), I really do believe that a father knows best.
Happy Father’s Day!
Blessed to be a Blessing,
Greg Syfan
