Gainesville company works with EPA as part of a freight industry initiative

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Syfan Logistics has been certified as a SmartWay Transport partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The SmartWay Transport Partnership is an innovative collaboration between the U.S. freight industry and EPA to achieve improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions from freight transport.

“Becoming a SmartWay partner demonstrates our commitment to operate responsibly by reducing our carbon footprint through improved fuel efficiencies and emissions reductions,” Syfan Logistics president Greg Syfan said. “This initiative between the EPA and transportation companies is a ‘win-win’ situation for all involved. It will help improve the environment, as well as reduce transport operating costs. We are excited to be a part of this public-private partnership.”

Participation in SmartWay helps logistics companies choose more efficient carriers, assess optimal mode choices and reduce their transport carbon footprint.

The goal of SmartWay Transport is to lessen the impact of freight transportation on the environment by promoting reduced truck idling, improved pick-up and delivery scheduling, use of intermodal shipping, and other strategies to reduce the carbon footprint.

Efforts of the partnership will reduce fuel consumption for trucks delivering freight, improve operating costs associated with freight delivery and decrease the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
