Dear Customers and Friends:
Our company regularly supports Eagle Ranch, a faith-based nonprofit that is one of the largest children’s residential programs in Georgia. CNN once described it as the “Miracle on Chestnut Mountain” in a story about founder Eddie Staub, who overcame huge obstacles to pursue his dream.
Eddie was inspired by an inscription that he has framed in his office. It reads, “Attempt something so great that it is doomed for failure unless God is truly in it.”
As part of our Faith Over Fear messages this year, I have referenced Christian business principles from Ken Gosnell’s book “Well Done.” Mr. Gosnell says business leaders need to dream big. A good example, he says, is Walt Disney, who once told his team, “If you can dream it, you can do it. Remember that this whole thing started with a dream and a mouse.”
Believe in a Bigger Vision
At Syfan Logistics, our business success is built on a big dream that started many years ago in a tiny trailer beside a noisy railroad track. To keep up appearances, we used to put customer phone calls on hold when a train passed by. It wasn’t pretty but we still believed in a bigger vision.
Today, with everyone talking about inflation and a potential recession, we continue to reach for the stars. Our executive team is not afraid to pray together for guidance to meet ambitious company goals. We’re not asking to get rich. Instead, we pray that God will continue to bless our company so that we can be a blessing to others.
Gosnell says that “Well Done leaders” can see into the possibilities of the future. They know that impossible things can happen because they serve a big God that longs for His people to do things that matter.
You need only look to the Bible for lessons in leadership. In Matthew 19:26, the disciples of Jesus expressed doubts about a situation that seemed impossible. “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
I challenge you to adopt this can-do mindset in your own business. Avoid getting distracted with putting out fires at work all day. Keep your focus on the big picture and your big dreams. Be positive and encouraging. Embrace the faith to believe and the confidence to seek the impossible.
Blessed to be a Blessing,
Greg Syfan
