"Syfan Says" Fall 2018

Syfan Logistics 2037 Old Candler Road P O Box 1294 Gainesville, GA 30503 770.287.8485 855.287.8485 SyfanLogistics.com 4 After more than 20 years in business, the family eventually sold Turbo to OHL Logistics. But restless and eager to return to the business world, the Syfans rebirthed a new company in 2011. This time, they attached the family name, calling it Syfan Logistics. Shortly afterward, they followed with a new trucking company, Syfan Transport, and more recently formed Turbo Sales & Leasing, a terminal tractor dealership. All totaled, there are approximately 250 employees – and counting – among the Syfan companies, which continue to expand with an estimated 100 new employees planned over the next three years. Every step of the way, the Syfans have considered the people who work for them as part of their own family. “We always say that you work with us, not for us,” Steve says. Today, the Syfan bloodline runs even deeper within the company and well beyond its family founders. Of the Syfan family’s five living generations, three of those generations presently work at Syfan Logistics: Steve’s son Chase Syfan works in accounting. Steve’s and Greg’s three sons-in-law Zach Allgood (customer sales), Sean Moore (customer and carrier sales) and Matt Keadle (customer sales) also work at the company, while cousin James Syfan is another key member in customer sales. “Family is everything in our home and work life,” Gloria says. “God is the real head of our family and teaches us how important family is. Everyone working with us is family.” The Syfan family gets together regularly, whether for large gatherings or small lunches out. The oldest Syfan is Gloria’s 95-year-old mother, Granny Sharp, who is still going strong at the center of each family celebration and get-together. “Whenever we gather for dinner, we hold hands in a big circle and say our blessing to thank God,” Gloria says. “Now the biggest blessing is to see and hear the great-grandchildren all stand at the table and say it with us.” The family is united by its faith in God and that faith guides their business. “In God We Trust” appears in the company brand as a testament to their focus and guiding principles. “We are thankful to God for the gifts he has given us,” Jim says. “As a family and a family business, we have been blessed and we will be forever grateful.” SYFAN FAMILY continued from page 1 It’s not often that we are excited when an employee leaves, but Hamilton Harper’s situation is a little different. Hamilton has been a staff accountant for 3 ½ years working with Turbo Sales & Leasing and Turbo Truck Center. Now, he is going into the ministry at Cornerstone Church in Athens. “I’ve been offered the opportunity to be the youth pastor at the church,” Hamilton says. “I’ll be working with middle school and high school students and work on starting a college ministry.” He earned a degree in business administration and accounting from Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss., where he played baseball. A 2011 graduate of North Hall High, Hamilton and his wife, Morganne, have been married for three years.
