"Syfan Says" Spring 2020
SYFAN LOGISTICS WORKS WITH LOCAL COLLEGES ON SUPPLY- CHAIN MANAGEMENT CURRICULUM Syfan Logistics CEO Jim Syfan has been leading an effort to create a supply- chain management and logistics curriculum at two Gainesville, Ga. area colleges that may eventually expand statewide. The effort began with a corporate partnership with the University of North Georgia and is now underway at Lanier Technical College. There is a demand across the country for qualified, trained workers in the logistics industry. Filling that need, the local classes are a first step to give students a look at the transportation business and how goods are moved from business to business or business to customer. “Our corporate partnerships benefit everyone,” Syfan said. “It gives the students an inside look at our business and a potential career path. We’re a fast-paced industry, which is appealing to a lot of people, especially youth. If you have the right skillset and desire, we can train you.” For the past several years, Syfan Logistics also has had an internship program that brings students from area colleges into their operation. “We’re giving them real- world experience,” Syfan said. “They are seeing all aspects of our operation. The internship goes hand-in-hand with the supply-chain management classes they are taking, and in turn helps our company develop potential new team members for our business.” Syfan Logistics CEO Jim Syfan speaks with interns from local colleges. PREPARE continued from page 1 AJC continued from page 2 Companies named to the AJC list were recognized based solely on surveys about the workplace completed by their team members. The AJC surveyed Syfan team members, capturing their feedback in 15 areas on what matters most about the company’s culture. Jim Syfan presented Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp a bowl purchased at the Georgia Mountain Food Bank Empty Bowl Lunch, the agency’s annual fundraiser. In presenting the bowl to Gov. Kemp, Jim said, “Just as my family has been blessed, it is a blessing to present to you this bowl which represents thousands of local children and families who will be served by the Georgia Mountain Food Bank.” JIM SYFAN HONORS GEORGIA GOVERNOR FAITH OVER FEAR These are unsettling times, but I remind everyone that this too shall pass. We know that God is in control, so I encourage you to stay optimistic and choose faith over fear. We are all blessed to be a blessing!
